LinkedIn Feels Like a Lottery — A Job Seeker’s Honest Confession

The Job Search Experience Today

For many job seekers, LinkedIn has become a daily routine, a place to check job posts, connect with people, and hope for a response. But more often than not, that hope is met with silence.

It can feel like playing the lottery, lots of effort, but no clear outcome.

Success Posts Can Be Hard to Watch

It’s common to see posts like:

“Excited to start a new job!”

“Received multiple offers, chose the best one.”

“Thanks to everyone who supported me!”

While these are great moments worth celebrating, for someone still searching, these posts can bring quiet stress, not jealousy, just a reminder that their turn hasn’t come yet.

Messages Sent, Few Replies Received

Job seekers often reach out for referrals, feedback, or advice. They try to be polite and professional.

But the reality? Many messages go unread. Most receive no reply. And over time, this silence begins to feel personal, even though it isn’t.

Posts That Go Unseen

Creating a post takes effort.

-Talking about skills

-Sharing the job search journey

-Posting certifications or achievements

But when posts get little to no engagement, it can feel discouraging, especially when others go viral for minimal content.

Why People Keep Trying Anyway

Even when it feels thankless, most job seekers keep showing up.

Because even if the results aren’t clear today, they believe one message, one referral, or one job post might change everything.

Reminder to Everyone Reading This

If you’re a job seeker:

+You are not alone

+Your effort matters

+Silence doesn’t mean failure

If you’re a professional or recruiter:

A small response can make a big difference. Sharing opportunities or referring someone helps more than you think.

LinkedIn may feel like a lottery sometimes. But behind every application, comment, or message is a real person hopeful, hardworking, and trying to stay strong.

Let’s remember to support, not scroll past.

Last to add, we have hiring managers on the platform, jobs being posted based on their requirements, and recruiters actively sharing them, candidates are applying too. Yet, things aren’t progressing as expected. I’m currently exploring and experimenting with how this platform can be used more effectively and as originally intended. I’ll be back soon with my learnings. Until then, cheers to your happy moments!
